Abstract
This study addresses the limited awareness and implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) within family education in China, particularly among families with children aged six to eleven. Through the survey and focus group, it was revealed that while Chinese parents acknowledge the importance of SEL, they struggle with effective emotional communication with their children. In response, we developed EmoNnect, a family-based SEL tool based on Game-Based Learning (GBL) theory. EmoNnect aims to enhance familial connections and SEL practice through activities tailored to China’s cultural context. The study highlights the importance of integrating cultural sensitivity into educational tools, offering valuable insights for promoting SEL in diverse cultural settings.
